Youth Services Summer 2012 Programs

REGISTRATION
Resident registration begins Saturday, June 16, 2012, in person at the library. From 9-3:30, get a free face painting by Berri Good Face Paintings. All resident children must have a valid library card to present upon registration. (Residents are from Alsip, Merrionette Park, and Garden Homes.)
If you do not have a library card, you will be charged as a non-resident, and must register on Saturday, June 23.
Non-resident open registration begins Saturday, June 23 in person at the library. There will be a fee for each non-resident child for each program. Please note: Day Cares may not sign up together as a group.

While supplies last, come into the library and pick up a special Summer Reading craft.
Registration is NOT required.
BINGO
K-5th grade
Saturdays, July 7 and July 14, August 4
from 10:30-11:15 am
Join us as we play our special version of Summer Reading BINGO! We will provide a helper for the younger children.
Non-resident fee is $3 per child.
Registration is required.
Family Fun Nights
Mondays, June 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 (see below) and July 30 from 7-7:45 pm.
All ages with caregiver.
Each week we present you with a different activity for the whole family. Sign up for one or all!
Family Fun Night Special
Legoland Discovery Center -- Race Car Workshop
July 23 at 7 pm
Children build Lego race cars, race them on a track, collect data, and use mathematics to calculate their car's performance, while also learning about the forces that affect their cars. A fun, hands-on way to get students excited about mathematics. Limit of 30 children.
SPECIAL THURSDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS
Thursday night programs will be held at the Alsip Park District gymnasium, 12521 S Kostner Ave.
Programs are first come, first served. Doors open at 6:45 pm.
Chris McBrien, the Magic Storyteller presents "The Dreaming Hour."

Magic Matt's Family Fun Show
Thursday, July 5 at 7 pm
All ages
Magic Matt will entertain the audience with his magic and balloon artistry.
Matt Wilhelm BMX Show
Thursday, July 19 at 7 pm
All ages
BMX Champion, Matt Wilhelm, performs amazing bike stunts and promotes character building.
The Rope Warrior
Thursday, July 26 at 7 pm
All ages
In this high-energy show, The Rope Warrior performs spectacular routines to a kaleidoscope of music.
Emerald City Theatre presents "Alice in Wonderland"
Thursday, August 2 at 7 pm
All ages
Practical Alice follows a peculiar rabbit down his hole, and finds herself in a magical, frabjous world. Join her for a tea party with the Mad Hatter, a croquet match with the Red Queen, and a wild journey with the Cheshire Cat. Alice is going on the adventure of her life, and you are invited to the tea party!
Story Times and Activity Groups
Registration is required. Programs start June 25 and run 6 weeks through August 4. (There are no programs on July 4.) Non-resident fee is $6 per child per 6 week program. Register for the grade your child is entering in the fall.
Once Upon a Lullaby
Birth-23 months with caregiver
Mondays from 10-10:30 am
This program is designed for babies as an introduction to the library.
Stories, music, nursery rhymes, and unstructured play will be shared by all.
Baby and Toddler Music Class
6-35 months with caregiver
Fridays from 11-11:30 am
We'll sing a storybook, play games, and enjoy a variety of small instruments while the instructor sings and plays guitar.
Twinkling Stars
Ages 2-4 years with caregiver
Tuesdays 10-10:30 am
Get up and get moving at the library with stories, songs, and silly fun that encourages your toddler's language skills.
Dreamy Doodlers
Ages 2-4 years with caregiver
Thursdays from 10-10:30 am
Come join us with your little one for a story, songs, and a process-oriented art project too! Please come dressed to get a little messy; plastic smocks will be provided.
Music Medley
Ages 2-5 years with caregiver
Wednesdays from 10-10:30 am (No program on July 4.)
Children will have fun developing early literacy skills through interactive music and movement activities.
Star Gazer's Academy
Ages 4-8 years
Tuesdays from 11:30-12 pm
From swinging on a star to exploring life on Mars, join us as we rocket our way through the galaxy.
Zoo Keeper's Club
Ages 4-8 years
Tuesdays from 3:30-4 pm
OR Wednesdays from 2:30-3 pm.
(No program on July 4.)
Why do kangaroos have a pouch? Are polar bears really white? Join other young animal lovers and have fun learning about the unique animals that live at the Brookfield Zoo.
Discover Illinois
Kindergarten and up
Mondays from 3:30-4 pm
Join us this summer as we "travel" through the Land of Lincoln. You'll discover fun things to see and do from Donwtown Chicago all the way to Springfield.
Art Class
Grades 2 and up
Tuesdays from 7-7:45 pm
Learn drawing, cartooning, and lots more in this art class for kids that will feature different materials and techniques. All materials provided.
Ceramics Club
Kindergarten and up
Saturdays from 3-3:30 pm
Children will paint a ceramic figurine that they will be able to take home that day. There is a limit of 12 children.
Dream Catchers
Grades 2 and up
Thursdays from 3-3:30 pm
Make your wildest dreams come true with our Dream Catchers program. Kids will be in a dream as they create out-of-this-world art, both digitally and with good old glue, markers, and more.
Night Owls -- Hunger Games Trivia NIght
Grades 4 and up
Wednesday, June 27 from 7-7:45 pm
Night Owls, take flight with the Hunger Games Trivia Night!
Join the suspenseful night of trivia about the science fiction novel Hunger Games. Test your knowledge and skills and join the Hunger Games Mania. Win a free laser tag gift card!
NIght Owls
Grades 4 and up
Wednesdays, July 11, 18, 25, and August 1
Choose 1 time slot: from 7-7:30 or 7:45-8:15 pm
Kids will become wise old owls when it comes to using digital tools to create book trailers, comics, posters, and more. Whoooo will join us?
YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
Youth in 6th through 12th grade may volunteer at the library. Volunteers may be asked to clean books, cut out crafts, or assist children with craft projects. Patrons should call to arrange volunteering for the following times: Tuesdays, 2-3:30 pm; Thursdays, 6:30-8 pm; or Saturdays, 10:30-12 pm.
